Our collaboration with Darcy aimed to capture a naturally beautiful and pretty look within a stunning outdoor setting. The focus was on creating dreamy, elegant portraits that truly showcased Darcy's serene beauty against the backdrop of a natural environment.
We use a Canon R6 paired with a selection of Canon 1.2 - 1.8 L lenses from 22mm through to 200mm. This professional-grade equipment allowed us to achieve exceptional sharpness and create the soft, creamy bokeh essential for achieving the desired dreamy aesthetic.
Coastal Serenity at Dawlish Warren, Devon
The picturesque Dawlish Warren in Devon, with its diverse blend of coastline and nature reserve, provided the ideal setting for this portrait session. The rolling dunes, long grasses, and expansive sky offered a rich tapestry of natural textures and colours, allowing us to create a harmonious blend of model and environment.
This shoot exemplify how thoughtful composition, expert lighting, and a keen eye for storytelling can transform a natural setting into a breathtaking portrait series. Each image works together to tell a story of natural beauty and elegant serenity.
The portrait series of Darcy demonstrates an expert command of composition to craft visually stunning and emotionally resonant images. In wider shots, such as Darcy standing amidst tall grasses, the rule of thirds is effectively applied, positioning her off-center to create a balanced yet dynamic frame. The natural leading lines of the grasses, combined with the expansive sky, contribute to a sense of depth and tranquility, with a wide aperture lens creating a beautiful, creamy blur that keeps Darcy as the focal point.
For intimate close-ups, like the shot of Darcy's face bathed in golden light, a tight crop and shallow depth of field are utilized to highlight her exquisite features. All the shots were captured using natural light, specifically leveraging the magical qualities of golden hour and sunset. This period provides incredibly soft, warm, and directional light, which was masterfully utilized to create beautiful, dreamy images. The backlighting from the setting sun was particularly effective in creating stunning highlights on Darcy's hair and skin, separating her from the background and adding an ethereal glow that truly enhances her natural beauty. The Canon R6's excellent dynamic range allowed us to retain detail in both the bright highlights and subtle shadows.
